NEW 2025 NM State Football Jerseys Leaked?!?!?!?! (Alternate Story Title: The Accidental Scoop The Local News Didn't Catch) + A Rant About Just Being Observant
Unique Crimson Jersey Is Most Dramatic Update - How Local News Missed It and How As A Media Member, I Feel Compelled To Elaborate on What was Already Shared By Someone Else
Hello All!
I was going to take the day off, but of course, something always brings me back.
This one was important to me, because it does give me an opportunity to tell you something before any news outlet, before the school and so much more.
This is what journos live for… to share information and get people talking!
But you know what? Writing is a thankless job sometimes. You aren’t appreciated until you are not around to give someone something to write.
Sometimes when all you do is write, especially when your work actually helps the subject matter you are covering by raising awareness, you want to hear “Good Job.”
Sometimes I don’t get that, nor do people even acknowledge the existence of my “GOOD JOB.” There are some people who have never reached out once in 20 months of doing this.
So, I am going to tell a little story from a few months ago. It’s important to the title of this column.
One of the few times NM State has called me back on anything I had written was a few months ago, when a “Pack the Pan Am” promotion led to a sellout of 13,000 plus at the venue for an Aggies vs FIU Basketball game. As someone who has not missed a game in 13 years as a paid season ticket holder, and not to mention someone technically in the media now, I know when that place is 1/2 full, 1/3 full, and I also know what time I will be in the shower based on seats filled around my section, because I can ballpark an attendance with the best of them.
It was not 13,274. I kidded around about it on a tweet, and I referenced it in a column as well.
Jack Nixon on the radio made a joke about the attendance being different than the reported number in his legendary sly, snarky way. Gonna miss that!
A local reporter got in my DMs, and laughed at the announced attendance and made his own wisecrack on Twitter, and no short of a dozen fans made the same joke. “There’s not 13,274 in there.”
I did what any reliable reporter does and fact check something… namely the ACTUAL capacity of Pan Am at the moment. I got it from someone at NM State via email.
So the purported attendance is 1,000 more than what was emailed to me as capacity.
OK, fine. I really don’t care. I am there, and that’s all that matters to me. As long as NM State makes money, I am pumped for them. I left that email conversation happy, because I was told in the email that people are aware of my writing. Makes me proud to have such an outreach with an email list rivaling a lot of colleges.
But later that day, I get a call from someone else at NM State… That call was interesting because I was EXPLAINED to why the actual butts in seats didn’t matter compared to tickets sold. Again, I did not care.
The implication in the phone call was that I was claiming that NM State was lying as to the attendance, which in terms of actual people, they were as there was not 1000 over capacity, but nonetheless the tickets got sold.
A 5 minute conversation turned into an explanation as to why what I wrote was somehow wrong, even if I was pointing out that there was not in fact 13,274 in there, even though someone with a theoretical higher place on the media food chain said the same exact thing, and according to them from my chat with them, was not talked to about the wise crack.
The call was about tickets sold and how some people don’t show up and they are still counted, and so forth. Mind you, I have been privy to interactions prior to this day about how the attendance number is announced from others within the school telling me.
Made me wonder, “Why call out my POV on the Pack the Pan Am?” Again, I really don’t care about who goes, as long as the school makes an effort to get more people to watch what I think is the best event in this area by far.
But it was the fact that I had a platform and pointed out what so many others pointed out online. I just happen to have a phone number out there because AGGREGATOR is my business.
Anyway, I am over it. But in that phone call, a few hours after a courteous email by someone else, I saw how someone’s perception of one disseminating information goes over with one person compared to another person. Reminded me of my old career. Someone can tell you how great you are, and the next person in charge of you tells you how terrible you are on the same thing.
Hey, my job as a writer is to be observational and point out things what others don’t point out.
Which leads me to tonight and my promise for discussing the 2025 NM State Jerseys.
I watch every newscast so you don’t have to. Ever since the NM State scandal, I DVR everything. I do it to make sure I can point out consistent, ethical reporting, get a handle on who reports things, and if there is something noteworthy to write about, I have it there and can whip something up.
One thing you should know about local news: Not a lot of people watch it compared to what’s in this area. KVIA leads the way in English Speaking viewers. I have included about what my average readership is as well as Las Cruces Sun-News
Difference between all of them and me is the hundreds of thousands of bucks in ad revenue.
But let me focus on KTSM, the TV Station I am closest to when it comes to eyeballs. I really like their production.. A LOT!
Although I became a writer because of a very crazy incident between me and someone who used to work there, I still always loved watching their newscast. I like to think their sports department is top notch with Sam Guzman and Kelly Horyczun.
Every Wednesday in the Spring and Summer, they do a live on location newscast called “Small Town Spotlight,” where they cover the local area they are in with a lot of stories and interviews. It’s really fun programming, and aside from the fact that the whole point of the show is to basically be a paid advertisement for a place on the show, along with a presenting sponsor, they try hard to make sure it is of local interest.
Kelly Horyczun, the weekend sports reporter at KTSM had an awesome story about the new football facility that you need to watch. You would be one of the first on Youtube to do so. Heck, I was the first one!
Look at this photo when I clicked on the story to share it with you
No views. But then again, it was posted 8 minutes before I got there.
But like my bank training taught me, always be aware of clues and things others might not see.
Towards the end of the video, I saw them… Mannequins with the Aggies 2025 looks on them! 3:10 in! The full video is below at the bottom of this column!
I told my wife, “LOOK NEW UNIFORMS!!!!”
I pause the DVR, and rewind it to see them and pause. Wow, that middle jersey looks so different. That new Helmet with the white looks a lot different as well.
KTSM didn’t mention it in the story. NM State has not mentioned anything either, though there would likely be a social media post announcing new uniforms. I have not seen it yet!
But in honor of one of my favorite websites, UNI WATCH, which I used to read in high school until the founder finally quit last year, though it is still in operation, I decided to make a big deal out of the uniform “Leak” that was only there, because the camera B-Roll focused in on what should have been a big secret to everyone not a coach or a player.
B-Roll is basically supplemental footage to your story.
There’s a New NM State Jersey, and my word, It looks SO DIFFERENT. BUT…
Let’s get to the minor tweak first.
(2025 White Uniform)
The new white road jersey keeps the familiar crimson and white colorway, but trades in the bulky 2024 font for a cleaner, more modern typeface. “NM STATE” is still front and center, but now in a slightly arched and slimmer presentation. The jersey number styling remains bold, though the updated cut gives it a more athletic silhouette.
Sleeves still feature the trademark triple-stripe pattern in crimson, but the striping is tighter, more compact—offering a more tailored, streamlined look. One
The helmets stay classic with the script “State” logo, but it is now crimson, and a crimson facemask replaces last year’s black one, adding even more unity to the overall color scheme.
The Black ones, I don’t see much of a difference.
(2025 Black Jersey)
Here’s the old one from last years game against La Tech:
Again, nothing major there.
But the Crimson one… I think a lot of people are going to have mixed feelings on it. I like it a lot. It’s different and unlike any Aggies jersey I have seen.
Here it is!!!!
(2025 Crimson Jersey)
My mouth is agape!
Here it is as it appeared on the news:
Here’s how it look compared to last year’s crimson jerseys:
Breaking Down NM State’s 2025 Home Uniform Redesign
NM State Football is rolling into 2025 with a fresh take on their crimson home look—still bold, still Aggie, but with a sharper, more aggressive edge.
The most noticeable shift? The “Aggies” block lettering is gone, replaced by a script “State” across the chest, echoing the helmet logo and tying the whole identity together. It’s a nod to tradition but dressed in a modern cut.
Gone, too, are the familiar triple-stripe sleeves. In their place: black shoulder caps and sharp white triangular panels across the chest and shoulders, giving the uniform a dynamic, fast look even at a standstill.
Another upgrade: the jersey numbers are now outlined. Thick white block numbers remain the centerpiece, but the subtle crimson outline adds depth and visibility, especially under the lights. It’s a small detail, but it sharpens the overall visual and gives the uniform more pop on TV and in person.
The new set also keeps the C-USA patch, centered Under Armour branding, and adds a small “NM State” mark on the left thigh for extra brand consistency.
Bottom line? The 2025 crimson uniform is a clean, confident upgrade. Less bulky, more modern, and fully aligned across helmet, jersey, and pants—it’s a look that says NM State isn’t just showing up. They’re pulling up in style.
The Crimson is a little less crimson, at least from that screengrab. Do you see it too? The script on the top of the jersey instead of block AGGIES is also really new!
In a weird way, they remind me of the Matty Ice Atlanta Falcons, but still, they have that Aggie pop to them. I do like them a lot, and like that the Aggies get fresh looks as other schools do it every year it seems!
Now the reason I wrote that long thing before is because I wanted you to know that no one else had talked to me about this, I saw it with my own two eyes with KTSM’s reporting, but they didn’t mention it on there, so I did in true Uni Watch fashion!
The reporting from the news station is on Youtube now, the footage that showed the new unis was on their dime, I just merely pointed it out.
I got even money bet on that I get a call hahaha..
All I did was watch my DVR of the news :)
Feel free to buy me a coffee for my investigative work of someone else’s video! :)
